Whitecourt Artist created our next card!

Justine Vandenhouten created our 7th day of Christmas card! And what a great card she made! Hand Painted, this beauty was inspired by the Rainbow Society of Alberta. This endearing and warm fuzzy organization is dedicated to fullfilling the wishes of Alberta Children with chronic or life threatening illnesses. We need more work like this being done!! Our next card!!

Our next #12daysofchristmascards was created by a group of designers called Workspace. They create some incredibly beautiful spaces all around #yeg like Bar Bricco, Corso 32 and personal homes. Seriously check out their impressive work here:

They are all a bunch of sucks for little baby animals and chose to highlight the Alberta Animal Rescue Crew Society. What an awesome organization! These guys are on a mission to improve the lives of animals by rescuing and providing sanctuary to abandoned, surrendered and abused animals - they do a heck of a lot more than that! Check them out at / a great volunteering opportunity for any animal lover.

Our 4th day of Christmas card!

Our next card was created by the amazing Chelsea Boos, an award winning #yeg based Artist! Chelsea's work is diverse, however often focuses on the intersection of Art and public space. You can read more about her work at 
She was inspired by iHuman Youth Society. iHuman engages high risk youth with Arts based programming in order to foster personal development and social change. You can read more about this incredible and impactful organization at

On the third day of christmas AYV presents this!

Our third Christmas Card! Created by #local artist Justin Shaw!

A crazy talented Edmonton based artist that has shown work at the AGA (Art gallery of Alberta), the AFA (Alberta Foundation for the Arts), The Works Art and Design Fesitval and much much more!

Justin chose to feature the Medicine River Wildlife Centre as his organization. The organization runs a wildlife hospital and environmental education centre dedicated to assisting distressed wild animals return to their natural habitat.

Day 2 of christmas bring a card by local artist Will Truchon!

Will is the former Artistic Director of The Works Art and Design Festival and currently an architect student! He felt inspired by the Alberta Institute for Wildlife! This crucial organization is so important, they run a veterinary clinic to support injured and orphaned wildlife. They believe in enriching the lives of Albertans with a strong appreciation and respect for wildlife. Check out their website for details and volunteering opportunities!

Every day from now until Christmas we'll be featuring a different christmas card created by local artists from around Alberta. Each card was inspired by, and represents an organization that is youth friendly and doing amazing things.

Our this first day of Christmas we give to you a card created by artist Sara Knourek - who lives in edmonton and is an education student with a background in Theatre Production and fine arts. She chose the Edmonton Humane Society as inspiration because she and many of her friends have adopted animals from there and she was impressed with the fine work they do!

The Edmonton Humane Society is committed to helping homeless and abused companion animals. They believe in the humane treatment of animals and are a valuable community leader in animal welfare. They have a youth volunteer program called Parent and me, check it out on their website and see all the good work they do!

Ok wow you probably haven't heard of Shiza Shahid but she's amazing. One of those people who have a vision of what the future will look like and the ambition to make it happen! Shiza heard about Malala's shooting and went to visit her in London. It was an immediate connection and the girls went on to co-found the Malala Fund. Their passion for social justice, education and women rights are an inspiration for us all! Go Shiza!

Guys!! it's giving you know what that means? Essentially it's a day dedicated to giving back and volunteering! So, to kick off the Christmas season start by signing up to volunteer or donate to a charity and help them deliver awesome programs to people in need!

A bit of history...

AYV (Alberta's YouthVOLUNTEER! Society) was started in 2006 by some awesome peeps not unlike yourselves. They were looking to volunteer but couldn't find any information on how to do it. Being go getters they decided that Alberta needed an organization just for youth to help us find our own information and opportunities!  AYV is an organization run by youth for youth!
