What We Do

AYV is firstly an organization whose mission is to encourage, enhance and support youth volunteerism throughout Alberta. We try and give you guys as much information on how to volunteer, where to volunteer and why to volunteer as we can! But we also do a lot more. AYV provides information to Organizations looking to engage youth better. Through our YEAP program, organizations can access free consultation services on how to improve their current programming, policies and procedures for volunteer engagement.

AYV hosts an annual leadership residency. Our Action Generation Leadership Residency is a 4-day conference hosted in August of each year. Delegates spend 4 days at the world class Banff Centre learning about leadership and personal development in unconventional ways. The workshops cover all sorts of amazing topics and utilize the facilities of the Banff Centre. This is a free residency and applications will be posted at the beginning of summer each year.

JOIN OUR ACTION GENERATION CHALLENGE! We're hosting a 6 week challenge beginning Feb 1st running through March 11th 2016! We challenge all youth to volunteer as much as they can during that time. Schools will register as a group and compete to get a super wild winners pizza party! Yaaas. Top individual volunteers will win prizes for being super human. Check our social media for updates and information!

Our Youth Board Mentorship program gives our youth board members the opportunity to speak at events, volunteer fairs, conferences etc on their board experiences. Being a youth run organization we're constantly learning and trying to better ourselves through workshops and speaking about our experiences.

YouACT is a new program AYV launched fall 2015. This program works with youth who are involved with the criminal justice system and have been assigned community service hours. We provide support, work to remove barriers and have partnered with organizations to ensure youth are able to complete their hours doing meaningful and exciting volunteer positions. We believe that having the support of a larger community is part of being a healthy happy adult and want all youth to feel connected and supported.

Various Community Art projects. Recently we hosted a "Before I Die" chalk board wall in Edmonton over the summer. It was a HUGE success and was filled out within hours every time we washed it down!! We are looking to repeat these all over our province so if you're interested in having one in your community shoot us an email to This email address is being protected from spambots. A bit of history...

AYV (Alberta's YouthVOLUNTEER! Society) was started in 2006 by some awesome peeps not unlike yourselves. They were looking to volunteer but couldn't find any information on how to do it. Being go getters they decided that Alberta needed an organization just for youth to help us find our own information and opportunities!  AYV is an organization run by youth for youth!
